A new electric car battery with a driving range of up to 600km on a single charge has been unveiled by Samsung SDI, a battery maker of Samsung Group.

Samsung SDI displayed the breakthrough product, a high-energy density battery cell that can fast charge EVs in 20 minutes, at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit today.

Samsung SDI said: “With a 20 minute charge, you can have a driving range of up to 500km which is 80% of the capacity.”

Sehwoong Jeong, Executive Vice President & General Manager of Automotive Battery & ESS Business of Samsung SDI, added: “By providing the industry-leading technologies and products that meet the demand of our customers and market, we will contribute to a rapid market adoption of EVs in North America and worldwide.”

The mass production of this product is expected by 2021.
