The pace that corporations globally are buying renewable energy has picked up in 2019 – compared to last year, according to BloombergNEF.
Its latest Corporate Energy Market Outlook report shows contracts for 8.6GW of clean power have been signed ‘in 2019 through July’, 1.4GW higher than the same period last year. The trend will likely see corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) for green energy outstrip 2018 numbers; with game changing policies in China cited as offering more reason for hope. These will mandate big business to ensure a certain percentage of their power comes from sustainable sources, while the introduction of a ‘prosumer model’ will allow ‘companies to sell excess generation from their own clean energy projects to neighboring sources of demand’.
