China maintains clean energy lead

China has maintained its position at the top of the latest EY Renewable energy country attractiveness index (RECAI).

The country overtook America, which is now third, in May of this year and is now firmly establishing itself as a global capital of the industry.

Ben Warren, EY Global Power & Utilities Corporate Finance Leader and RECAI Chief Editor, said “the index highlights that government policy is pivotal in driving renewable energy development globally.”

China is showing real leadership in this area. It is committed to spending £300 billion in clean energy over the next five years; and is attracting record levels of investment in its renewables industry. The country is also taking its international responsibilities towards supporting sustainable power systems very seriously.

And plans are underway to build a new mega-city in China – powered by clean energy – that can ease the pressure on Beijing.
