Business takes a shine to renewables

Big companies in the US are investing record sums in solar power, according to a new report.

The Solar Means Business 2017 reportfrom the Solar Energy Industries Association – reveals details on the 2.5 gigawatts of solar capacity generated by more than 4,000 companies across 7,400 projects.

“Large corporations have found that going solar not only benefits the environment, but also their bottom-line, satisfying both shareholders and customers alike,” said Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).

Target was the top performer, increasing its installed solar capacity by 40 megawatts (MW) last year, bringing its total to 204 MW. Apple, Walmart, IKEA, Amazon and Costco Wholesale were some of the others in the top 10.

It is indicative of the clean power trip corporates are on around the world; and in America reflects the growing movement, outwith the White House, pushing for a renewable future.
