The German delegation to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP23) in Bonn will arrive on a train powered by 100% renewable energy.
German railway company, Deutsche Bahn (DB), which is running the service, is one of only two rail firms anywhere in the world to have been awarded the top environmental score by international ratings agency, CDP.
Speaking today, as the ICE Train to Bonn left Berlin Central, DB CEO Dr Richard Lutz said: “Today we are sending an important message by having our 250 guests travel CO₂-free. We have continued to raise our own climate protection targets and step up our efforts since Copenhagen in 2009, in Paris two years ago and now in Bonn in 2017.”
DB plans to cut its emissions by 50% by 2030 – and be ‘CO2-free by 2050’.
