The multi-billion dollar plant-based and cell-based food markets continue to perform strongly, according to new research from the Good Food Institute (GFI). Released earlier this month, GFI’s State of the Industry Reports show the rapid rise of these industries during 2017 and 2018, with companies attracting ‘unprecedented investment’.
Fast food giants, including Burger King and McDonald’s, have put new plant-based options on their menus, as brands big and small respond to consumer demand for these types of sustainable foods.
“Shifting consumer values have created a favorable market for alternatives to animal-based foods, and we have already seen fast-paced growth in this space across retail and foodservice markets,” GFI executive director Bruce Friedrich said in an article on the Institute’s website.
