America accelerates renewables goals

There are now 67 American cities signed up to the goal of moving to 100% renewable energy.

Yesterday we reported news of number 66, Bellingham, Washington; and hot on its heels, Kennett Township, Pennsylvania, has backed plans to shift to 100% clean power. A resolution passed by the Township Board of Supervisors has set a target of transitioning to ‘clean renewable electricity’ by 2035 and ‘heat and transportation by 2050’.

“Moving to sustainable energy sources will reduce global heating, and open doors to a good future for our children,” said Owen Owens, Kennett Township resident.

Read our interview with Jodie Van Horn, Director of the Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 campaign, for a flavour of the passion for renewables being felt in communities across America.
