Lin Kayser calls himself a software guy. Which slightly belies the impact of his story so far.
At the heart of the innovation ecosystems that enabled the transition from analogue to digital, he helped digitise Hollywood and build the first digital cinema in the world: doing image processing for the Matrix movies and most of the other movies we have all been watching over the last 20 years.
Not a bad space to be in but everything changed for Lin in the mid-noughties. After watching Al Gore’s seminal documentary: An Inconvenient Truth he became more alert to the climate crisis telling his wife he was in the wrong industry. Now the environmental problem ‘coming down the pike’ was what he wanted to turn his attention to.
Which ultimately led to him co-founding Hyperganic Technologies AG. A business focussed on building a software ecosystem for the future of manufacturing using Artifical Intelligence and 3D printers. Where the goal is to build objects and entire machines that are as complex, sustainable and efficient as natural objects. Themes that are explored further through his foundation, the Kayser Forum for Sustainability, which raises awareness of environmental issues.
Lin is also on the board of several innovative companies, including Isar Aerospace: a rocket launcher startup, and VoltStorage: a company that builds sustainable batteries for storage of renewable energy.
This is a software guy doing some pretty amazing things and I am delighted to welcome him as my guest today on Inside Ideas to learn more about his vision and mission.
