Africa’s solar-powered airport

South Africa

|11 October 2016|

George Airport is the first on the African continent to be powered entirely by solar energy.

Around 2000 solar panels support everything from the ATMs, restaurants, check-in desk and airport control tower at the South African airport.

Nearby homes are also benefitting by accessing excess energy produced at the airport.
