Accelerator targets sustainable oceans

A bitcoin donation valued at $1 million has been made to fund millennials developing innovative ideas for realising sustainable ocean ecosystems.

The Pineapple Fund’s 123.32 Bitcoin (BTC) payment to the Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) will support startups taking part in a 12-week programme designed to help them catapult their products and services to market.

“This generous gift from the Pineapple Fund will allow us to take a radically new approach to tackling some of the most pressing threats facing our environment. SOA’s vision is to transform brilliant solutions from young people around the world into revenue-generating companies that can scale and have a positive impact on the health and sustainability of the ocean,” said Daniela Fernandez, SOA Founder and CEO.

The upcoming Solar Oceans Accelerator in San Francisco, which starts on 11 June, will give participants access to a diverse network of cross-sectoral mentors and investors. Applications need to be submitted by 23 March.
